Best bitcoin client .. can I run a full node daemon somehow and connect to that from a light client process w/ wallet?

bitcoin-qt wants to be a full node daemon, and then throw the wallet file into the blockchain directory. But the storage demands on the wallet file and the blockchain seem very, very distinct to me.
I know there exist light clients, but I do not know if they let you specify what nodes you'll trust. Also I do not know if there exist nodes you can run which do not try to administer a wallet file.
I'd like to run a daemon on hardware I control, configured to trust peer nodes I tell it to, and then connect directly to that via a light client, which would only bring my wallet file online via liveCD and USB stick when I choose. This would beat my current approach of trying to update the block chain off the USB stick. ;P
Is this a common pattern, or has anyone else already set their gear up this way? Am I overlooking anything important?

Monero GUI stuck in sync loop

Hi everyone,
I have been using Monero GUI with no hassle until today I converted some bitcoins to XMR via Changelly and noticed my funds did not update despite recieving confirmation that the transaction has been made.
I quit out of it and reopened and now Monero GUI is stuck in a loop where Daemon is synchronised and the wallet blocks will then sync until the blocks count down to zero and then demon will sync again and the process has been repeating for a couple of hours.
It wouldn't sync initially it would get stuck so I rebooted then disabled windows defender then I ran into this new looping problem
I'm using: Windows 10 V0.16.0.3
Any help would be much appreciated thanks

how to access local full node from other machine...

In an effort to learn about and support the neetwork, I have setup a full node running bitcoin core on a dedicated linux box. It's been running smoothly for about a month after the blockchain dl and I smile a little every time I login to check logs and diskspace and all the little sysadmin tasks.
I would like to run a wallet gui client on my daily box that accesses the bitcoin box in a client/server sort of way.
Can bitcoin core do this? If not, is there a wallet (windows) that will provide a full gui while using the bitcoin core daemon running on my linux box?

RPC Specify wallet for each command?

Hello there. I made a post on bitcoin about a week ago here asking for help with loading wallets in rpc. I got that sorted and now I'm moving onto working with Monero
I am able to connect to bitcoin-wallet-rpc which is connected to my local testnet daemon but if I want to interact with a users wallet I have to unload all the other wallets to make sure I am interacting with the right one because I can't seem to work out how to specify which wallet for each command.
The solution with BTC was to add /wallet/ onto the end of the service_url but there dosn't seem to be anything like that in XMR.
Am I missing something obvious? Any help appreciated!!

This repository contains the necessary configurations and instruction required in order to interact with Libonomy mainnet-beta-release-v1 for the developer community. It is to inform that all the necessary deployment required to run our mainnet network protocol is up and running with all the proper configurations. Currently the configure nodes are around 15 which are running virtually on some machines, but the nodes are configured in multiple regions.
In order to use commands on network developer community can download our mainnet build file for Linux which is present in this repository and use wallet-CLI repository to make commands. Further release of the mainnet from next week will include our mainnet node release for developers in which we will make our mainnet crypto currency code open source and they can then use our code as well or even can make run time build.
This node is referred to as Libonomy mainnet daemon. Just like bitcoin or other crypto currency who use daemon as a service. Likewise, Libonomy provides community with daemon service as well.
However, our next release will be configured in a way that our AI protocol is connected with Staking Consensus protocol so the community who don’t have a lot of knowledge about Aphelion protocol can make use of their staking blockchain knowledge for carrying out validation activities on Libonomy as well.
This release also comes with compatibility of smart contract which will be interoperable with Ethereum in its release of next month. Which means that when Libonomy will demonstrate its blockchain reboot the current blockchain will never get affected or even the smart contracts. This reboot feature can be regarded as first blockchain which can even reboot itself without creating a fork or disrupting the current running network.

Cannot create wallet with Trezor

Hi guys, I am stuck trying to create a wallet for my Trezor with Electrum 4.0.4 on Linux:
I get to the point of entering the password twice and then selecting the path. But after that it just says
'Please wait' and then the window hangs. The only way to do something is either kill the process or send a `SIGINT` signal.
Interestingly after sending a SIGINT the window unfreezes and asks me again for the password (also during the whole freeze the Trezor device writes that I should enter my password). After entering the password again I get an empty error window and on closing it everything closes.

GUI wallet and Ledger nano isn't what I thought

So I use the hardware wallet to hold bitcoin mainly, but I thought it'd be a good idea to store Monero on it. Anyway I noticed that GUI desktop wallet doesn't integrate well with it. I dealt with frequent crashes, so I'm forced to force stop the program. It doesn't always happen, but frequently it does. I had to opt for simple mode, because I don't have enough space. It also bothered me that the balance is aways in XMR and doesn't show fiat currency even when I tweaked the settings. Also, daemon takes a long time to start and stop. I understand this is required whether I connect to a local or remote node, but it made me appreciate the hot wallet more. I really prefer to use Ledger for all my cryptos (I only buy specifc ones), but GUI wallet and Ledger nano s don't provide seamless experience. I've been wondering why they don't have a Monero app like the Bitcoin and other cryptos? Anyway, if anyone has a different experience, please do tell. If Monero team improve the software, I'll definitely start using it, but right now it's better to use a hot wallet for Monero. By the way, I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.

Created a full node + Lightning node from scratch.

So i created a full node and a lightning node from scratch.
Coming back to bitcoin after few years, i wanted to see what the lightning network was.
So i changed my vps to a dedicated server (to add more storage) and started my journey.
The first thing was to install the full node. there's some nice ressources to do that, but you have to find them. I started with https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#other-linux-daemon but the cli instructions are almost non existent. I then found https://github.com/BlockchainCommons/Learning-Bitcoin-from-the-Command-Line which is great! Protip: you have to create a config file by yourself. I created a wallet and waited for the blockchain to finish downloading.
Then i added a lightning node. I used lnd because i like the go language. The program is great but i found the user documentation lacking. https://gist.github.com/bretton/0b22a0503a9eba09df86a23f3d625c13 is a nice ressource, but you don't need to set an rpc user, lnd will use the cookie auth automagically if you're running as the same user as bitcoind (and provide bitcoind path probably..?). Protip: To create a qrcode with your lightning address you can use qrencode: lncli newaddress p2wkh qrencode -o address.png 'bitcoin:bc1youraddress...'
Once everything looked to run smoothly i wanted to add funds to my lightning wallet. Protip: you can directly transfer fund to it. no need to transfer funds in your full node wallet (don't know why i did that..).
I manually opened few channels with other nodes, but using the autopilot feature from lnd seems to work fine.
Lastly, i wanted some sort of dashboard so i added https://github.com/djmelik/lndash because i'm fluent in python , the project is straightforward, read only, and good looking.

On new install, LND won't finish loading. Asks to create wallet but can't...

UPDATE: The solution is to go into the myNode command line and type lncli create .

LND Lightning is version 0.10.3beta and I'm running the latest myNode.
On the home screen it says "Lightning Please create wallet..." then I click manage, and the status says "Starting...". I click on create wallet and it says " Waiting on lnd... Please try again in a minute. " After multiple reboots, nothing changes. In the LND log it says at the end:

Error starting up new Bitcoin Unlimited BCH node.

EDIT: Fixed, I just needed to run "./bch-unlimited-1.8.0.0/bin/bitcoind --daemon -reindex" It's fully synced now.
It was syncing for awhile at first but now it keeps crashing whenever I run the following command."./bch-unlimited-1.8.0.0/bin/bitcoind --daemon"

What does "bin/bitcoin-wallet" and other binaries do?

I'm old, and haven't run Bitcoin Core since the 80's, when it was just bitcoind and bitcon-qt.
Can someone tell me what these files are and what they do, because a) they're not mentioned in the readme.md, and b) Google is absolutely useless for searches like "bin/bitcoin-wallet", returning patronising results like "What is a bitcoin wallet?"

Funds never received. What did I do wrong?

Sorry if this is a boring or redundant topic, but I just can't find an answer. This is my first attempt at a Monero transaction.
I downloaded and installed the Monero Windows GUI app. I handled the antivirus issues, and the network is showing as connected, with both Daemon and Wallet synchronized.
I used Changelly to exchange Bitcoin to XMR from a Coinbase account.
The transaction seemed to work smoothly, and Changelly is telling me the funds have been moved successfully.
My Monero wallet does not show any received funds.
When I compare the wallet's primary address and the address listed in the confirmed transaction, the appear identical.
What could have possibly gone wrong? How do I debug this?

How To Stake/Mine Coinevo

EVO Staking/Evo mining

Evo uses Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, which is different from Bitcoin's PoW (Proof of Work). Evo mining process in PoS system is called staking. The block producer will get 6.5EVO, as well as the transaction fees and gases as block reward. So the real reward is usually more than 6.5 evo in total.
Basic requirements for staking:
  1. Run a Coinevo fullnode, and keep online (Since Coinevo is using PoS, we don't need any mining machine, just PC or even Raspberry Pi can run a fullnode);
  2. Have some EVO in the wallet (fullnode)(Any amount of EVO can be used for staking, more EVO means higher possibility to stake).
If you have no EVO yet, please get some from market before you doing following staking settings.
Currently, Coinevo Core wallet is the only wallet that support Coinevo PoS staking. Note that other wallets like mobile wallet and Evo Electrum are not able to stake for the time being.
Two ways to stake:
Either way works in the same way for staking, so you can choose either method you like.

Method 1:Staking with evod (command line)

1. Run evod

Follow the guidance to run evod :
./evod -daemon 
Staking is default on for evod, so no need for other options if you only want to stake.

2. Send some EVO to your wallet

First you can generate a new address with:
./evo-cli getnewaddress 
This will generate a new address with Prefix '1'. You can send some EVO to this new generated address for staking. You can generate as many addresses as you like, and send arbitrary EVO as you like for staking.
Note:The coin should wait for 500 blocks before being able to stake, i.e. about 17 to 24 hours to MATURE..
After the EVO node syncing to the latest block, you can check current balance with ./evo-cli getbalance or get utxo list with./evo-cli listunspent
Please do following steps after your coin is mature.

3. Check staking info

Check current staking info with:
./evo-cli getstakinginfo 
You might get the result like this:

enabled means if your wallet have enabled staking, it should be true by default. staking means if your wallet is currently staking (mining). weight stands for the amount of EVO that is staking right now, with unit 10^-8EVO, here in the example, we have 0.532EVO staking. expectedtime stands for the expected time that you will get a reward, the unit is second.

4. How to stake if the wallet is encrypted?

If your wallet is not encrypted, you can skip this section. However, for security, we recommand you encrypt your wallet.
Coinevo wallet can be encrypted with encryptwallet . However, staking will be stopped when it is encrypted. For example, ./evo-cli getstakinginfo for a encrypted wallet:

Method 2: Staking with evo-qt wallet (official PC wallet)

Current supported platform: Mac/Linux/Windows.

1. Open Evo qt wallet

2. Send some EVO to your wallet

If you already have some EVO in your wallet, you might skip this step.
Note:The coin should wait for 500 blocks before being able to stake, i.e. about 17 to 24 hours to MATURE..

3. Check staking status

The flash sign at the bottom of wallet shows staking info :
Solid black flash means it is staking now. For more information, you can put your mouse on the flash, e.g.:

Adding Monero support to a P2P game, need some advice

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the process of adding Monero support to a peer-to-peer game I've been working on and would like to ask this community for some advice.
The application has a few hard requirements that must be met:
  1. The Monero integration must be done using JavaScript (primarily for Node but browser's okay too).
  2. The application must be able to create addresses and accompanying private keys internally (no CLI or external API). Preferably, these should be derived addresses using a master or main one (like HD wallets in Bitcoin).
  3. The application must be able to generate raw transactions internally -- no CLI or or external API. For this part let's assume that the input UTXOs are going to be available somehow (from a database, for example).
  4. The application must be able to sign raw transactions internally -- no CLI or or external API.
When I say "no CLI", I mean no RPC wallet or daemon; no external API calls either.
Essentially, I should be able to do the above offline, using JavaScript only, and then just post the signed transactions later (this part can be done via CLI or API). These are core requirements for the project otherwise I'd just use RPC or a service and save myself a lot of work.
So my question is: is there a documented JavaScript library that supports all of the above functionality?
I found a project called mymonero-core-js which appears to do what I'd need, but there doesn't seem to be any accompanying documentation (the included unit tests don't offer much information). Does this documentation exist?
There's also an offline wallet generator but it's also undocumented and kinda unwieldy (one huge file).
The game (my project), already supports Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash using these constraints, and I've done fairly extensive work with Ethereum, smart contracts, and crypto in general (not just cryptocurrencies, I mean), so I shouldn't need much hand-holding.

Air-gapped z-addresses; Is ZecWallet an option?

I've heard of Zcash for a while, but it wasn't until recently that I tried my hand playing around with the daemon and wallets.
Obviously, there's no point in using ZEC if you're only using t-addresses, but my desire for a z-address capable wallet certainly narrows the choice of wallets available to me.
Running a full node is no problem for me; I'd like to take advantage of a GUI if possible though. For that reason, I am drawn to ZecWallet's full node version. But I'm still uneasy when it comes to key security. (Can anyone share their experience with the ZecWallet paper wallet generator?)
From what I gather there is no wallet with HD support for t-addresses, is that right? Not much of a concern for me because I am interested in the shielded pool. I just figured t-addresses would support Electrum-style seeds but apparently not?
Sapling addresses seem to be exactly what I want; in particular I am drawn to their reusability and ability to export the view key. I was hoping this would ease the process of securing and backing up my private keys.
Here's my key handling protocol I use for Monero:
1) Generate the wallet on an air-gapped machine
2) This gives you a mnemonic seed. I write that down and keep it as an analog backup. By using a passphrase in conjunction with the seed, I can effectively encrypt this paper wallet easily.
3) Export the private view key and address to an online machine and make a watch-only wallet. This lets my watching wallet see incoming transactions
4) When outputs are received, I have to export the list of outputs to the air-gapped machine. The air-gapped machine uses this data to make signed key images.
5) I export the key images back to the watching wallet. At this point, the watching wallet can see outgoing transactions.
6) Now I can create unsigned transactions with the watching wallet, sign them in the air-gapped machine, and transmit them via the watching wallet using my full node.
The major benefit of using Monero in this way is that I only have to make a human-readable backup of my wallet once and I'm set for life.
Obviously, Zcash is going to be a little bit different. Since the core client doesn't give us mnemonic seed phrases, that complicates backup a little bit. What's the best way to back up ZEC? If I keep an up-to-date backup of my wallet.dat is that all I need? Is there an option in the wallet to encrypt this backup as well, or do I need to accomplish that externally with the likes of Veracrypt? I must admit the idea of unencrypted wallet data being written to my disk makes me uneasy.
I see that there is an option in zcash-cli to import/export the view key of Sapling addresses. However, I can't see the option to do so in ZecWallet, and when I do so manually via the CLI nothing seems to be reflected in ZecWallet.
Is ZecWallet by its very nature an obligatory hot wallet, or am I missing some functionality in the wallet?
My end goal is to run a ZEC full node on Qubes and hold my coins in z-addresses. Qubes allows me to make virtually air-gapped VMs to greatly simplify key management.
So for example when I use Bitcoin, I have a networked VM that runs a Bitcoind + Electrum Personal Server + Electrum Wallet stack, where I import my master public key. When I need to sign a transaction, I spin up a networkless VM equipped with Electrum and my private keys. Qrexec let's me easily ferry unsigned/signed transactions back and forth between the two VMs. Overall this provides a decent UX with above-average security and privacy. I'd like to port this general setup to Zcash.
To do so, I need a GUI wallet that supports both z-addresses and public/private key splitting. Does such a tool exist? (Can Electrum Personal Server be ported to ZEC?) If not, how can I streamline this process with the CLI?
I'm more familiar with Monero than Bitcoin, so the Zcash/Bitcoin CLIs are still a little foreign to me, though I am not "afraid" of CLI wallets in general. My Cryptonote muscle memory makes me prone to annoying little syntax errors I'd much rather do without.
My plan is to buy ZEC from Coinbase Pro, withdraw to a t-address, and then sweep my coins to a z-address. I want to monitor the balance of both t-addresses and z-addresses (and later send transactions) without ever exposing my private keys to the Internet.
However, it seems like the Zcash CLI is my only viable option for z-address watching wallets. Should I just play around on testnet until I get more familiar, or is there a GUI wallet solution out there that fits my needs? Does anyone have a cheat sheet for doing this via the CLI that could help me along the learning curve?
