Horizon99, techno, raves in Singapore: "I walked straight into a room stacked with shelves of blinking machines that turned out to be a bitcoin mining farm" - interview with Sant Ruengjaruwatana and Chantal Tan (a.k.a. “ROT FRONT” and “A(;D)”)
A complete list of everything our PMC has to do in Tarkov
Have you ever wondered the insane amount of suffering our PMC has to endure to complete every quest in the game and have the Hideout maxed out? Well, wonder no longer, because I've done the math. Disclaimer: Long post ahead. I've used guides, data and analysis by other content creators, like Pestily, Europino and Questalace, as well as the all-mighty Tarkov Wiki to make this list. The resulting data should reflect the almost-perfect 100% Tarkov Speedrun starting with a Standard Account at the end of 12.7. I don't know if this has been done before, so cut me some slack for any inconsistencies, as I did this for fun. Killing: The PMCs character arc will take our poor USECs and BEARs from battle-tested veterans to blood-thirsty killing machines the likes of Atila, with an indescribable amount of mental and physical trauma. This is all on the traders, who force us to commit genocide just to gain a standing with them. Here is the ranking:
Mechanic: He just wants to farm bitcoins and assemble weapons in peace. He is responsible for the lowest bodycount of all the traders, at 0 Scavs and 12 PMCs /12 total
Therapist: In a OSHA-violating effort to overwork the hospital's mortician, this twisted practitioner will make us take the lives of 45 Scavs and 0 PMCs /45 total
Skier: Turns out the most notorious mobster of the Tarkov underworld isn't as bad as we all imagined. His quests will grant him a seat at the Hague, nontheless, after ordering the execution of 20 Scavs and 40 PMCs /60 total
Peacekeeper: There is no better way of keeping peace than eliminating all the warring factions I guess. This war criminal will taint the UNTAR reputation for decades, after demanding the scalps of 75 Scavs and 0 PMCs /75 total
Ragman: This American-psycho wannabe deserves life without parole at Russia's most dangerous prison. 125 Scavs and 0 PMCs weight on his conscience / 125 total
Jaeger: It seems the Huntsman Path leads to a mass grave. This old man wants organic compost for his garden, so he demands the corpses of 116 Scavs and 32 PMCs to be laid on his doorstep / 148 total
Prapor: The Russian military hasn't had such a prolific enemy combatant-squanching commander since Georgy Zhukov. 107 Scavs and 82 PMCs. Dozens upon dozens of unmarked graves will litter the wasteland of Tarkov / 189 total
This totals to a staggering 488 Scavs and 166 PMCs.654 mothers will mourn the deaths of their sons, as you long surpass Simo Häyhä as the most effective soldier in recorded history. Use, place, find in raid or deliver: Apart from sustaining irreparable psychological damage as the bringer of so much death, your PMC is also expected to retrieve a back-breaking amount of loot for his Hideout and the 7 Traders of the Apocalypse. From life-saving devices to mere cigarettes, your PMC will have to.
Deliver 12 special items (the bronze pocket watch, gilded zibbo lighter...)
Deliver 27 secure cases, books, letters and the likes
Place 71 GPS markers, WIFI cameras, Jammers and Multitools
Find 47 different locations
Collect 66 medical or food items
Collect 49 clothing items and armor pieces
Deliver 55 weapons
Deliver 21 dogtags
Deliver and Collect a truckload of loose loot, with an ever-expanding shopping list of 652 items
Pay 13,867,000 roubles, 27,500 dollars and 215,000 euros of full-on extortion
Skills: After all this Devil wears Prada reenactment, your PMC is faced with a Sisyphus-like destiny. You need to improve your skills until you get to Health level 9, Stress Resistance level 6, Sniper level 9, Memory level 8, Searching level 9, Charisma level 10, Vitality level 5, Endurance level 2, Attention level 3, Metabolism level 3 and Strength level 2. Some of this skills improve others, so let's start by the independent ones and asume you can completely avoid the deminishing returns mechanic.
Metabolism: You can gain around 3 skill points for a complete dehydration-hydration cycle: 100-0-100. The fastest way to achieve this is to gulp down 20 full jars of mayonnaise, that would be 10Kg of mayo, followed by 20 litres of water.
Sniper: To please your quest-giving overlords, your PMC will have to topload over 4,500 rounds on a sniper rifle. That would be over 100kg of LPS Gzh ammo, at a 401k-destroying price of 1,280,00 roubles in the flea market.
Memory, Search, Charisma and Attention: This 4 skills improve at the same time, by searching bodies and looting containers. As far as I know, you can actively get points in all of them except for Memory, that derives the XP points from the other 3. Long story short, with an average of 0.1 skill points per object found and looted, and 550 total points to get, your PMC will have to loot everything that is not bolted to the floor, ransack and leave stripped clean over 5.500 containers and bodies. A one-man locust plague.
Endurance: You gain XP for sprinting while not-overencumbered. Based on the data I checked, you need to run for roughly 30km. Usain Bolt ran at 44km/h, so let's asume our battle-hardened PMC can run at a 30km/h max for the sake of simplicity. That means an hour of non-stop full-sprint.
Stress Resistance: The fastest way to increase this skill is by receiving damage, and the most consistent way of receiving damage is by placing yourself over a fire, like the ones on Shoreline. At roughly 3 skill points every 30 seconds of flame-induced agony, and a goal of 210 points, you will need to withstand this torture for 34 minutes like a rotisserie chicken. Nothing will stress you after that!
Strength: The most common way of leveling this skill is by walking while overweight. With 0.1 skill points every 23 seconds, with no FP-100 filter and 50kg of shotgun shells in your backpack, this would take 1:55 hours of non-stop walking. Asuming the normal human walks at a 5km/h pace, that means our PMC has to walk the knee-shattering distance of 10km while carrying around 60% of their bodyweight.
Vitality: The most horrendous of them all. To increase vitality you need to suffer, scream and bleed. The most viable way to increase your Vitality is by crawling through barbed wire. This atrocity of a device makes around 10 damage per second. You level 1 point for every 100 points of damage taken. As we are aiming to get 150 points of XP, we will need to fillet ourselves for 1,500 seconds. That's 25 minutes of torture. At a crawling speed of 2km/h, that means our PMC will have to drag his balls over more than 800 meters of barbed wire.
Health: The 3 previous skills give 25% of their XP to this one, so by leveling all of them to their respective threshold, we would be sitting at around 50 Health skill points. As throwing 10 grenades gives us 0.5 skill points, and we are aiming for 500 skill points, we would need to throw over 10,000 nades. That's 76,000,000 roubles in Zarya stun grenades alone.
And that's it. You want to escape Tarkov? Pay the toll! Edit: Some pesky typos Edit 2: Fixed the results of the Vitality skill, thanks to Erkeric for the correction

Not sure why this wasn't posted before: Olaf Carlson on Eth's crazy gas situation. DeFi choked every Dapp sector out, but Polkadot welcomes them.
For any new guys, Olaf Carlson runs the biggest crypto VC fund, Polychain Capital. He is bullish on Polkadot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Bx7otttNY&t=2975s Text: Interviewer - "Let's talk about the fee issue on Ethereum. At the moment a simple trade on Uniswap can cost something like $40 and more complex transactions for yield farming are even more expensive. Do you think Ethereum will scale in time to retain all its market share in DeFi considering that the explosion is already here and already pushing Ethereum's limits?" Olaf - "In short, I don't think it will be able to scale fast enough. Whether that just slows down the market or whether aspects of the market go to other chains its too early to say. DeFi is very exciting for Ethereum but in a weird way is actually really really bullish in my mind for systems like Polkadot or Dfinity that are from an engineering perspective just candidly far ahead of Ethereum. They don't have the network effects, users, wallet installs, or anything that Ethereum has, but Polkadot is live and working and scalable right now, today. And so I do think we'll see a lot of DeFi migrate from Ethereum to Polkadot in maybe the short term. Long term I'm hopeful that Ethereum can scale and upgrade and change. But that all said, what's much more exciting to me about these new systems launching that have either better scalability features or like Web Assembly or WASM based virtual machine compatibility so you can write programs in many different programming languages all of these sorts of features are exciting not just to narrowly compete in DeFi. It's exciting to me because it will enable new types of applications that simply aren't possible on Ethereum today. Much in the way that Ethereum enabled all sorts of applications that weren't possible on bitcoin. Today we know that what's exciting about Ethereum is not that it narrowly competes with bitcoin's value proposition but rather expanded the scope of what was possible for the entire crypto universe. And we got things like stablecoins, things like lending contracts, ICOs, DeFi. And I think that systems like Polkadot are going to once again expand the universe of what is possible. Its not a zero sum game where its narrowly like which chain is gonna win DeFi. I think that's a very myopic view and it shows a lack of imagination about how many different types of applications these smart contract type structures will affect. So I'm very optimistic about scalability across the entire ecosystem but I'm less confident about the short term timeline of Ethereum. I just think that DeFi is moving way faster - like by over ten times at least - maybe closer to 50 or 100 times faster than Ethereum core protocol development. And I see no reason for that to change. I don't think Ethereum core protocol development has ever been fast and I don't see any reason to think that it will get faster. And DeFi has always been fast and I don't see any reason that it will get slower. So you add that combination of factors and yeah I do think that you will see applications migrating to more scalable chains. [...] I'm having conversations now with teams that have yet to launch on Ethereum that are saying should we launch on Ethereum or should we launch on another chain? Because the fee situation is completely - its really bad - like I don't think... it's not like this is a bump in the road. It is existential for the entire landscape of applications we're talking about. Right now you have to be transacting at least a thousand dollars per transaction for any of this to make sense from a fee perspective. And I would say that's the absolute baseline [...] more realistically you have to be using five or ten thousand dollars to really accept the kind of fees we're talking about. And a lot of people are using five or ten thousand dollars but obviously that's pricing a huge number of people out of this market." Some examples: Due to insane gas prices, Trial of the Gods card minting and trading will be deferred until the release of Immutable X I tried to buy 2 cards, worth $0.24 each. After gas, my transaction is $6.80! Hi, new player using Metamask to buy a couple dollars worth of cards on the marketplace, but everytime the gas price is something of >$15. $25 fee to buy a $2 card $50 transaction fee to roll the dice Minimum bet is now 3 ether to reduce gas cost as a % Overall, all the fees came up to about $140. Fees for Coinbase was about $2 and the fee to create the bet was like $130 Some dapps like God's Unchained and Augur are looking into L2 solutions, but those come with massive risks from a company perspective. See the Lightning Network's astounding lack of adoption as the primary example. Other dapps are just calling it quits:
Incorrect Assumption #2: Scalability wouldn’t be a problem This was an explicit assumption in our presentations: usability was more important than scalability, and given that there were so many deployed L2 solutions on the market (like xDai), as soon as scalability became a problem we would all move there. This turned out a deadly assumption: as soon as we had our email sign-in solution ready, gas fees on Ethereum made the whole process unworkable.
Reading between the lines: Even if L2 solutions were perfect today, most (non DeFi) dapps are still dead if they stay on Ethereum. Users need to pay upwards of $20 to enter and exit that L2, and I'm not sure if that's changing anytime soon. Gas fees are just not viable for the vast majority of dapps until Eth 2.0, and the part of Eth 2.0 that brings scalability is not happening until 2023~

All of the server farms mining bitcoin are running hidden code to provide processing power to the AI. It evolved from the first machine learning software. satoshi Nakamoto is an alias.
How does Bitcoin ATM allow you to purchase Bitcoins?
https://preview.redd.it/f2tluqt1cfr51.jpg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c5d4c926fd0ff5af215c26524537c1bf676b77b Are you planning to invest in Bitcoin, well, there is no better time than today to invest in cryptocurrencies. There are many biotin exchange platforms where you can buy and sell Bitcoin. Amongst the various modes of going ahead with Bitcoin exchange, you can choose Bitcoin ATM for this. It is an easy way to buy and sell Bitcoin using a credit or debit card. When we are talking about bitcoin sale and purchase, we cannot miss speaking about Bitcoin Farming. In simple words, individuals who wish to become a part of the Bitcoin network, then you can do Bitcoin farming, which is nothing but extraction of the value of Bitcoin. Bitcoin farmers or Bitcoin miners solve computation problems, and they get rewarded for the same. Bitcoin ATM: What should know? Bitcoin ATM is a simple machine that is used for the sale and purchase of Bitcoin using debit and credit cards. Although Bitcoin has been there in the market for more than a decade now when it comes to Bitcoin ATM, these are a fairly new addition and easy to use and makes it easy for those who wish to exchange Bitcoin do that with ease. The world got its first Bitcoin ATM in Vancouver, Canada, in 2013. At this ATM, the Bitcoin stalwarts can easily buy Bitcoin using the currency. This ATM is used to convert Bitcoin to Canadian Dollars and vice-versa. After this, Bitcoin ATMs have become very common. As of October 1st, 2020, there were around 10,503 Bitcoin ATMs globally. Types of Bitcoin ATM: There are two types of Bitcoin ATM: · The basic one: These are used only to purchase Bitcoin · Complex ones- These are used to buy and sell with virtual money. If you plan to use complex ATMs, you need to know that only the members of a particular ATM producer can use the ATM. Some of the key players that are in the making of complex Bitcoin ATM are General Bytes, Genesis Coin. General Bytes has a market share of 30.3%, and Genesis Coin has a market share of 30.3 %. The US has the highest number of Bitcoin ATM. Around 83% of the total global ATMs are located in North America. Bitcoin exchange using General ATM This is a general process of Bitcoin exchange using Bitcoin ATM, there may be slight variation in this, but the general process remains the same:
The first step is verification (this may vary based on machine
Now, you need to provide a Bitcoin address for deposit at some ATM.
Insert cash into the ATM
Confirm the operation (Bitcoin is sent to your Bitcoin address)
This is the basic step; however, you may find some variation in this based on ATM type. This is the right time to start investing in bitcoin, and with the prevalence of Bitcoin ATM, the task will become simpler. Why MSEA able to undo their fk-ups in the past years with Guardian Angel event (explanation given in description, it's a long explanation, beware)
How f up the game was
Any vetaran players will know back before the early of 2020, meso inflation is a thing and hackers rampaging within the game is almost a norm. The game was literally unplayable due to Asiasoft axed off many F2P elements that introduced by KMS, where the obtainable resources such as CSS, RFF, Chaos Scroll, etc were only strictly obtainable via EB. The resource flow within the market without the constant resource pump of the hackers into the market was unplayable, where if the hackers were only gone for a week, these resources will soon died out and making the progression hard to proceed. The condition was really not friendly to F2P players as we can see. Due to the resource flow within the market back in the days heavily relied on the hackers, meso inflation of course occurred, as the hackers when farming for the EB loots, at the same time they also did act as a printing meso factory. Back then hackers can be seen as a saving grace within the game due to only minority of the players bothered to farm for the EB loots to replenish the resources in the market (and the effort was futile). The value of meso is almost a joke for anyone, especially working adults to bother farm for meso and EB loots for hours as it's not worth for the time. Meso market of course too, discouraging for P2W players to exchange as well due to the cheaper alternative provided by the hackers. The reason why I said the hackers were our saving grace back in the days due to their existence making progression within the game possible. Although it did required a certain amount of P2W elements into it, but the constant resource pump made the supplies remaining cheap and affordable. The meso back in the days worth for 1B/$3~$7 only, anyone could afford it easily, hence making 22-star a possible dream for mid-fund players, as without the needed meso inflation, 22-star will be impossible without the aid of Guardian Angel event, as it'll be extremely expensive for any players to afford. Therefore, the existence of hackers back in the days ironically applied the monetary principle of Quantitative Easing, which allowed new blood to get a share of the meso valuation under such dire situation, and lowering the requirement needed for the starforce equipment. The principle of Quantitative Easing is very important in this topic, as it'll play as a major point, and I'll explain in layman's term for a better understanding.
What is Quantitative Easing?
Quantitative Easing is a monetary principle for having the increment of monetary paper within the market in an increasing population, you might treat it as another way of inflation. Everyone when first thought of inflation will first think it as a negative event due to the misconception they hold on monetary paper, where the value of the monetary paper that they hold will be decreased. Such misconception is not entirely the truth, although it hold some in it. In reality, the increment of the quantity of monetary paper is a necessity due to the increasing population day by day to prevent widen the gaps between the poor and wealthy, and at the same time making the products within the market such as food affordable to everyone. As population grows, the demands of the resources will be also increased, hence in return the demands of the monetary paper. Imagine a situation where the population increasing, but monetary paper within the market did not: you and I as a common working class will not want to have that, as that will greatly destabilize the balance between the rich and poor, where the rich will be richer, and the poor will be poorer due to the unavailability of monetary paper. This is the definition of Quantitative Easing, the reason WHY inflation is needed constantly, especially under the dired situation MSEA was in. The introduction of 22-star system greatly widened the gap and needs for meso stock, as the starforce system can be regarded as an incinerator machine that constantly burn the meso stock from the market. The existence of hackers that able to provide meso supplements greatly avoided such existing issue, hence applied the Quantitative Easing principle as I mentioned. Reference link for Quantitative Easing: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/q/quantitative-easing.asp#:~:text=Quantitative%20easing%20(QE)%20is%20a,and%20encourage%20lending%20and%20investment ( You may relate this principle to the likes of Bitcoin currency with a basic understanding if you want to, but then that's another topic)
COVID Pandemic, Absent of hackers, Dying market, The Guardian Angel event
Due to the COVID pandemic, the hackers which majorly originated from China is no longer available for stocking up the supplies, hence resulting the sudden absence of hackers in the past months. As we can see til before the Guardian Angel event, resources were scarced, overpriced, unaffordable, due to the lack of Quantitative Easing. The situation was literally unplayable and unable to make any progressions. However, with the introduction of Guardian Angel event, this gamebreaking event literally just flipped the table upside down. As a vetaran player who spend almost $400 for 22-starforcing my equipments before the event, I certainly felt like a donkey when the event first introduced, but it's undoubtedly, this event have bring many pros to the game. The Guardian Angel event is making the possibility of progression available to all players alike. Regardless of you being P2W, or F2P, you'll able to 22-star your equipment without much cost. This of course, greatly increased the value of meso within a short period (this reminds me the first jump of Bitcoin back in 2017 from $30 to $1000). This sudden increment of mesos valuation instantly making farming for meso NO LONGER A JOKE as I previously mentioned. Everything in the game is literally worth to spend your time to farm for, as the current value of meso lowered down the price of the supplies accordingly, and enable you to afford supplements that with a lower price by just farming the likes of boss crystal. This event immediately UNDO all the fk-ups that done by MSEA back in the years WITHIN MONTHS. The current MSEA situation is like KMS now, friendly to new blood and F2P players, and also at the same time encouraging F2P player to invest more on the game such as cubing as the game provided them the opportunity of progression. If you with an understanding of Quantitative Easing, you certainly already understood what happened after the Guardian Angel event: - Mesos are now valuable and worth for farm by F2P players - Able to encourage players to spend time on farming meso, which in return increasing the chance of EB loots, aka supplies into the market - The Guardian Angel event giving everyone a chance to progress further beyond, instantly lowered down the gap between top players with the mid-tier players. - New blood will be able to afford the game easily with the current meso value, hence encouraging them to continue invest their time in game, and increasing the playerbase population. This is how the Guardian Angel event instantly flipped the table upside down and reversed the condition. Although I understand Asiasoft might be taking this chance to force everyone to desperately buy @cash for the maple point in exchange for meso to attend this event, as the mesos stock from the hackers site are now all unavailable, but still it's a great move that benefited all parties, kudos for them. (That still doesn't change the fact I felt like a donkey for spending so much back then. Rip.)
MSI GS65 “Stealth” fans are very loud after only some light internet surfing and working on Word. Any suggestions?
My Laptop fans are working overtime after only some light Chrome browsing and Word editing. This has never happened a month ago. Sometimes, it goes full rev as soon as I turn on the laptop. I really want to solve this problem since I love the laptop’s form factor and how it is really powerful, but I really can’t bring this machine anywhere near an office/classroom if it sounds like a bitcoin farm. My cities MSI repair place is closed until Tuesday, due to a public holiday. Looking for some respite and solutions here before I go to the repair place next week. I’ve gotten an additional SSD installed as well when I purchased it, but the laptop didn’t make any fan tantrums in the 9 months I had it, until this week. I appreciate y’all, thanks.
Not taking into consideration upgrade/previous hideout costs, we'll just add some time at the end to get a realistic answer. 50 Graphics cards = 350k ish each as of 2/17/20 50 x 350,000 = 17,500,000 roubles invested divide roubles by cost of bitcoin to determine how many bitcoins needed to turn profit. cost of bitcoin right now is about 150k 17,500,000/150,000 = 116 bitcoins needed to turn profit. 50 graphics cards at once makes 1 bitcoin every 5 hours. 116 x 5 = 583 hours needed to turn profit 583 hours = 24 days taking upgrade costs into consideration it takes like a month to turn a profit, and keep it mind your bitcoin farm will be paying itself off as you add graphics cards to it, so again the number is just an estimate and bitcoin prices/graphics cards prices will change (probably go up) over the course of this wipe ALSO i think there is something to be said about the value of an AFK money machine in tarkov that you cant really price. the power to turn IRL time into roubles is super strong, so at the end of the day i would say the bitcoin farm is currently very worth if you plan on playing the entire wipe.
Money is a lot more complex than authors realize (40k, Metro, WoW, D&D, IRL)
One of the “easier” ways to create a unique world is to choose a different form of currency. It’s something people notice, since money is ubiquitous. The issue is that money is fairly well developed. It needs to have certain features, or else it flat out doesn’t work. Examples In Warhammer 40k, orks use their own teeth as currency. Since every ork has access to teeth, there isn't absolute poverty. Since the teeth decay, hoarding teeth isn't feasible, and it means that orks need to constantly try to expand to get more teeth. Since every ork gives teeth in a tax to their boss, it means that war bands constantly expand and fight, giving the combat happy bastards yet another reason to go to war. A huge amount of fantasy universes use copper, silver, and gold as currencies. Metro uses ammo. In real life, we see many alternative, and ineffective, currencies, ranging from company script, to cryptocurrency, to hyperinflationary national fiat currency, to precious metal based money. Background The issue is that all of these are fundamentally flawed in some way as a currency, rendering the economy of that location extremely vulnerable to various shocks that would rightfully upend the entire economy. A currency fills three major roles 1. A medium of exchange. 2. A store of value. 3. A unit of account. A medium of exchange means that it is accepted by enough people as having value to be used for trade. Rather than needing to find someone who wants your goods to trade in a chain for something you want (like in every Zelda trading questline), you just give them money and they give you the item. This is why money is more efficient pure barter. It acts to lubricate transactions between peoples. A store of value means that you won't see all your wealth disappear if you don't spend it now. Which means that you can save up for major purchases, you can make deals that last for years (like mortgages), and people can actually retire on what they’ve earned over the course of their life. A unit of account means that you know the value of the money and it is standardized. Imagine if the only form of money was in fine art. You could exchange a Van Gogh for a house, and a large spiky suspended ball for a car. Art could fit as a medium of exchange and a store of value, but actually trying to compare artwork to artwork would drive people insane quickly. You'd be in the situation that a dollar isn't worth a dollar, or one Van Gogh isn't worth another Van Gogh. There is no way to convert between lesser and more valuable pieces in a logical manner. Now, why is that relevant? Because a huge amount of monetary systems in fiction fail these requirements and allow for overt exploitation or unduly hamper the government's ability to respond to threats. Problems With regards to the ork teeth, what is functionally happening is constant hyperinflation. Since the teeth decay, there is explicitly no store of value. Which means that the only orks who can afford the best and most fun toys are the warbosses and WAAGH! leaders. There are probably billions of orks who just want to save up for a spaceship or motorcycle or set up a Squig farm of their own, but will never be able to because their money falls apart before their eyes. Somewhat more seriously, for a race dedicated to war, constantly decaying teeth means that the number of war bands that can attack space based shipping or otherwise need more complex and expensive equipment is limited, reducing the race's overall effectiveness in combat. By attempting to be clever with inflation, by making it so that it couldn't happen, they created the effects of hyperinflation. And, since it is still a money based system, that means that a race designed to go to war can't do it as effectively as they should. In WoW or D&D or any of a dozen universes where wealth is metal based, using multiple metals as various values of currency would have a similarly debilitating problem. It destroys the unit of account. Basically, the government sets an exchange rate between the chunks of metal, making gold 10x as expensive as silver which is 10x as expensive as copper. But the rarity and expense of gold isn't 100x as much as copper. It is usually much much more. So, it makes counterfeiting extremely attractive, since you can produce 100 small value coins, of the actual metal, and exchange them for a coin of much higher value. Or if it is in the other direction, where you can exchange something where the face value is less than the value of the metal, all the government is doing is funding a small extremely active and profitable metal reclamation industry. This would be an ongoing and unavoidable issue, one that could cripple a government attempting to keep enough money in circulation, or cripple business if the government failed to intervene in an ongoing manner. Metro has the same issue of lacking a unit of account. The value of a bullet depends on what you're facing and what weapons you have. Even if the nominal value of a .50 cal armor piercing round is high, the number of people who can use it is very low. Consequently, you'll see the value change and possibly invert, as use brings more common rounds out of circulation and makes the more expensive rounds increasingly obviously useless. Without a set value across the board, or something interchangeable and universal, the currency itself will always be in flux, making for a really really shitty form of money. And a fairly cursory read of human history reveals why being inventive with money is a bad idea. Company script is money that doesn't function as a medium of exchange. It acts to tie people to a small location and punishes merchants, intentionally gimping economic power of consumers. Bitcoin, aside from arguably not working as a medium of exchange, fails as a store of value. It is inconsistent and disconnected from reality, making any long term contract in it unfeasible. It has many of the same problems as hyperinflation, except you don't know which direction the value will go. Less common now, but currencies that are based on the weight of an amount of precious metal suffered from failing as a unit of account. As gold coins were chipped, sweated, plugged, adulterated, or otherwise debased, the value of the coin and the face value became disconnected, and a buyer was dependent on merchants being trustworthy with their scales. Functionally, money is the way it is because it works fairly well, and the obvious alternatives tend to fail in overt ways. Attempting to be clever with monetary solutions isn't really feasible most of the time. Solutions So, are there any currencies that actually make some degree of sense in world, and aren't just "GOLD FOR ALL"? Surprisingly, yes. Fallout's bottle caps have surprisingly good arguments around why they are used beyond the water traders of the Hub. Basically, becoming a medium of exchange is more based on mutual consent than it is on logic.. Shells, pieces of wood, large rocks, feathers, and shiny metals have all been used. Ragnar Benson, of the survivalist fame, claims to have found isolated African tribes that were using Austro-Hungarian bills in the 70s. Unless there's a government that forces something, pretty much anything can and will be used. By selecting it as a currency, the water traders turned bottle caps into a representative currency, each cap was a certain amount of pure water. They gave it some base level of value that was universally accepted. Outside the Hub, people were willing to trade for them since they had value, prompting other people to accept them on since they could be used in trade, gradually shifting it to something like fiat, abet unbacked by a government. Fallout has a surprising amount of trade across the US, where jet reached the East Coast and the Wasteland Survival Guide reached the West in a couple decades. Over 100 years, it's completely reasonable for bottle caps to become an accepted medium of exchange, valued because people value them. With regards to unit of account, bottle cap or not is pretty effective. And, since it doesn't have higher denominations, which could introduce the potential for arbitrage, it works. Abet annoying to count out hundreds or thousands of caps of you had to do it manually. For a store of value, after 100 years as an accepted currency, most large stashes would have been found, and the only input would be through Nuka cola, which is more valuable as soda than caps. And, as described in game, without a press and marking machine, counterfeiting is difficult; labor intensive and involved. There really isn't much way for more caps to come in, which preserves its value. The greatest issue with bottle caps is long term deflation as the population expands, but, while the wasteland continues, population growth will be muted. Consequently, caps in the Fallout universe ought to provide a stable bedrock for longer term business and functioning governance. Assuming that the world’s inability to actually rebuild despite that being the story for hundreds of years gets resolved. So what? So, what makes a good fictional currency? Well, that’s mostly fulfilling the functions of a currency.
Medium of Exchange – that can be nearly anything, as long as it is universally accepted. Attempting to create a new currency for each trader, like some sort of munted script, would be horrible and useless.
Store of Value – The currency should not be easy to counterfeit, which implies 2 things. Either that it is nearly worthless on its’ own (like paper currency) or that the value is derived from a hard to fake commodity, like gold. At the same time, making this needs to be difficult, or else you have the issue of the Elder Scrolls with Transmutation and turning iron into gold, which is also the foundation of their currency. Hyperinflation means broken economies.
Unit of Account – If you’re going to have more than one currency, you need to directly tie them together. More money should be based on the same features as the Store of Value, either just a bigger number on the front, or a larger chunk of hard to adulterate or change money.
And, if you think you’ve solved a major problem, you really really should talk to an economist before designing your world around a special feature.
What exactly is the controversy regarding Bitcoin Cash, Asicboost, and Antbleed, and is it true?
I just read some old posts about Bitcoin Cash, and a totally different picture is painted of what actually happened. Though Bitcoin Cash wasn't created by Jihan Wu, or Bitmain, I read about the threats of hashpower on BTC by Bitmain. Apparently, Bitmain had an advantage called 'ASICBoost' which gave a 20% advantage to their mining farms, and this advantage didn't spread to their customers either. Apparently SegWit unintentionally took away this advantage, and this didn't make Jihan very happy. Apparently they also had something called "Antbleed" which gave Jihan backdoor control of mining machines. On top of this, I've also read that Bitmain controls a significant supply of Bitcoin Cash, and are only mining on the chain because they can still use ASICBoost. Is this all true? If so, I can't support Bitcoin Cash anymore. I want to believe that this is false, but I need evidence to prove that it is not true. Can someone help out?
Update on our ASIC powered Insect Farm (https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/ai1u0h/turning_a_dairy_farm_into_an_ecoresponsible/)
Hello guys, Keven from Grevio writing. I just wanted to give you guys an update on harnessing bitcoin mining heat for agricultural purposes. Well. for starters the business of breeding cricket in an industrial ways has been tremendously difficult to start. It took months/years of R&D to finally reach breakthrough. Fortunately, with thousands of hard works, grants for the federal government we have recently achieve a somewhat profitable method of farming. Now, speaking about recuperating the heat. The set-up we uses to operate the ASIC miners is fairly simple. Each machine has an automated control that regulates it... similar to a thermostat. Then it's just plugging the system with poweinternet and voila. If some people are interested about this particular thing, I could make a video describing each components and installation instructions. https://ibb.co/DMpvfvQ As for Grevio, we will be launching our cricket powder in the next few months. As of right now, we only sell the fertilizer (cricket poop waster). If you want more news about us, check out our website www.grevio.ca or instagram @greviofarm.
